Charleston

The Perfect Day

One very good Charleston day — breakfast, the KALLAN Walk, King Street, a Southern lunch, your pick of the afternoon, champagne, dinner and somewhere worth ending the night.

START THE DAY

TAKE KALLAN WITH YOU

Save Charleston to your phone.

Open the guide like an app so the itinerary, map and links are easy to reach while you’re walking the city.

THE PERFECT DAY

Charleston, in the right order.

Start near Cannon Street, walk through the city while it’s still waking up, finish the route on King Street, then let the day get slower as Charleston gets prettier.

8:30 AM | Coffee + Light Breakfast at Harken Cafe & Bakery

Start with coffee and something light to grab before the walk at Harken Cafe & Bakery. It feels distinctly Charleston and puts you right where the walking day should begin.

THE KALLAN WALK

9:20 AM | The KALLAN Walk

Harken Cafe & Bakery → Waterfront Park → Rainbow Row → The Battery → White Point Garden → Tradd Street → Philadelphia Alley → King Street.

Walk straight from Harken Cafe & Bakery into the French Quarter, then continue to Waterfront Park, Rainbow Row, the Battery, White Point Garden, Tradd Street, Philadelphia Alley and King Street. It keeps the entire morning on foot and ends exactly where the shopping starts.

KALLAN NOTE Harken is close enough to fold naturally into the route, so there’s no need for a car. Give yourself about 75–90 minutes of walking time for the full route, plus whatever time you want for photos and little detours.

10:45 AM | King Street — shop the KALLAN picks

Give yourself about an hour. We’d rather send you into a few places worth knowing than hand you a giant shopping list.

THE CHARLESTON FIND

Croghan’s Jewel Box

Charleston’s family-run jewelry institution. Look for the Goldbug Collection — bug, shrimp, palm and Lowcountry-inspired pieces that make for a very Charleston keepsake.

KALLAN NOTE Ask to see the pieces and exclusives available only in Charleston — those are the ones we’d look at first.

THE FASHION STOP

Hampden

An independently owned King Street boutique with a sharp edit of American and European designers. Go in for the clothes; leave time for the accessories next door at JAMES.

12:00 PM | Lunch at Poogan’s Porch

Now sit down for the meal that feels unmistakably Charleston. Poogan’s has been serving Southern food from a Victorian house on Queen Street since 1976.

WHAT TO KNOW Brunch runs daily until 3 PM, so you can still order the Charleston classics even though we’re treating this as lunch.

CLASSIC CHARLESTON

Old South Carriage Co.

Take the one-hour historic carriage tour, then use whatever time is left to wander the lower end of King Street or duck into anything you skipped earlier.

KALLAN MOVE Arrive early enough to see the stable before your tour.

SLOW CHARLESTON

The Dewberry Spa + Citrus Club

Book a treatment at The Dewberry, then head upstairs for a drink at Citrus Club. It turns the middle of the day into the reset instead of making you go back to a hotel.

THE DEWBERRY SPA CITRUS CLUB

SUNNY-DAY MOVE

Little Palm at The Ryder

If the weather is too good to be inside, check ResortPass for a Little Palm pool day pass. The heated pool and cocktail bar make this the easiest vacation-feeling version of the afternoon.

KALLAN NOTE Day-pass availability changes by date, so check before you build the day around it.

5:30 PM | Champagne + caviar fries at Camellias

Hotel Bennett’s pink champagne lounge is exactly the kind of pre-dinner stop we want in a Perfect Day. Order champagne and the caviar fries — crispy waffle fries with crème fraîche and roe — and make this the aperitif.

KALLAN NOTE Standard service is first come, first served, so build in a little flexibility.

7:00 PM | Pick your dinner

Three different Charleston nights. Choose the one that sounds most like you.

ELEVATED + BEAUTIFUL

Sorelle

Southern Italian food in a beautiful Broad Street setting, with handmade pasta, a strong wine program and tableside martinis. Special without turning the night formal.

SORELLE

LAID-BACK

Leon’s Oyster Shop

Our more laid-back option: oysters, fried chicken, frozen G&Ts, soft serve and grower Champagne in an old garage. Pick Leon’s when you want the fun, casual version of dinner.

The Commodore

Keep the night going with live music and dancing in one of Charleston’s most fun late-night rooms.

OPTIONAL EXTRA · SHEM CREEK

Charleston at golden hour.

If you have another evening to spare, head across the harbor to Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant for a sunset on the water. This is a separate excursion, not part of the downtown walking itinerary.

KEEP IT EASY

Sunset catamaran sail

A relaxed, shared two-hour sail aboard a spacious catamaran, with Charleston Harbor views and an onboard bar. Departs from Shem Creek.

MAKE IT SPECIAL

Private sunset cruise

Take to the water with just your group on a private cruise for up to six guests. A more personal way to see Charleston at sunset, departing from Shem Creek.

EXPLORE THE PRIVATE CRUISE

Both depart from the Shrimp Boat Lane area in Mount Pleasant, but use different docks. Confirm your exact meeting point and departure time when booking; allow travel time from downtown Charleston.

A LITTLE MORE TO EXPLORE

Have more time to explore?

If you're staying a little longer—or feel like making the day your own—these two Charleston experiences are worth considering. Enjoy them as alternatives to part of the itinerary, or save them for another day.

SOMETHING CREATIVE

Create your signature scent

Make a custom perfume or cologne that's entirely your own. A memorable way to spend a little extra time in Charleston—and bring something personal home.

EXPLORE THE PERFUME EXPERIENCE

SOMETHING DELICIOUS

Taste your way through Charleston

Discover local flavors and stories on a guided downtown food tour. Plan this as an alternative to your usual lunch and afternoon stops, rather than squeezing it into the full day.
